Turn one long video into useful short clips
A strong short clip makes one point and stands on its own. Start with that standard, then use automation to find and assemble candidates.
Pick footage with a clear idea
Interviews, product walkthroughs, tutorials, and recorded answers can contain several useful clips. Start with footage you have permission to reuse. Make a short list of questions it answers or moments where a viewer can see something concrete happen.
Give each candidate a one-sentence purpose. “Explain how the lid opens” is easier to edit toward than “make this more engaging.”
Use automation for the first pass
OpusClip can turn longer videos into clips, with captions and reframing tools. Descript lets you cut and rearrange recordings by editing the transcript. Both capabilities are described on their official sites.
Treat suggested clips as candidates. Keep the surrounding footage available so you can check whether an answer depends on the question before it or the qualification after it.
Make the opening understandable
Remove a long setup when the clip can begin at the useful point. If the speaker says “it,” “that,” or “as I mentioned,” add the missing context with a simple title or include an earlier sentence. Avoid edits that change the speaker’s meaning.
A good opening tells the viewer what they are about to learn. It does not need to exaggerate the result.
Check the crop and captions
Reframing a horizontal recording can hide the product, demonstration, or another speaker. Watch the exported file all the way through and check the crop at each cut. Correct names, numbers, and technical words in the captions.
Preview the clip at the size people will see it. Keep essential text away from the edges and leave room for the destination platform’s controls.
Publish with a useful next step
Connect the clip to a relevant page, a full tutorial, or a clear follow-up. Keep a record of the original recording and edit so you can update or re-cut it later.
Review which topics produce meaningful visits or inquiries. Use that information to plan the next recording, instead of relying only on the number of clips you can produce.
